Job description - Position Summary
The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is seeking a dependable, alert, and community-minded Security and Safety Attendant to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all clients, staff, and visitors. This role is crucial to support our mission of serving vulnerable newcomers and to provide a secure setting for language classes, test sittings, and support services. The Security and Safety Attendant reports directly to the Director of Language, Employment and Childcare Services and plays a key role in ensuring the comfort, dignity, and safety of everyone who enters the facility.
Job Description - Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain a visible and reassuring presence in and around the building during evening hours and weekend events.
- Screen clients entering the building to ensure only authorized individuals access the premises after regular hours.
- Monitor entrances, hallways, and common areas to deter misconduct and prevent unauthorized access.
- Respond promptly and calmly to incidents, safety concerns, or disturbances; apply de-escalation techniques when needed and document incidents accurately.
- Coordinate and communicate with staff to ensure safety protocols are followed and assist with emergency procedures if required.
- Foster a respectful, dignified environment for clients and staff; respond to inquiries and provide general assistance when possible.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications and Skills:Grade 12 or equivalent education.
- Proven experience and/or training in security, patrol, or a related role (e.g., community safety, building supervision).
- Ability to project a confident and authoritative presence while treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
- Strong situational awareness and de-escalation skills; able to remain calm under pressure and make sound judgments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to follow established procedures and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated accountability, initiative, resourcefulness, and professionalism.
- Clean Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening) is a must.

Hours of work
This is a casual position with hours scheduled Monday to Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (including an hour of unpaid lunch), with a possible maximum of 24 hours of work per week. The starting wage for this position is $21.46 per hour at Step 1 of RODS Admin Category 1.
